E Eric Guirard Brings Basketball to Business

E Eric Guirard Brings Basketball to Business

Baton Rouge, LA (PRWEB) July 31, 2007

No stranger to a court of law, local injury lawyer E Eric Guirard (http://www.eguarantee.com) also is familiar with another kind of court—the basketball court. Guirard, who is referred to by the letter “E,” has been playing with his “Sunday Night Basketball Crew” (which consists of Guirard’s high school and college friends, work associates, and employees) for almost 30 years.

Basketball plays an important role in Guirard’s life. “Just as strategy and execution are crucial elements in basketball, they play similar roles in the cases that my colleagues and I handle every day. In many ways, you can compare a basketball coach to a CEO. They both have to look at overall strategy while encouraging their teams to communicate and work together for positive outcomes. Our weekly game allows us to have fun, exercise, and build camaraderie while playing a sport we love,” Guirard says.”

Guirard’s “Sunday Night Basketball” game is an invitation-only event that has been played for the last 25 years at the old CYO Center Gym. Though the regular players are mostly comprised of Guirard’s friends and colleagues, over the years a few local celebrities have participated, including Derrick Taylor, Ron Dupree, Eric Martin, Herman Fontenot, Jermaine Williams, Jordy Hultberg, Dennis Brown, Pokey Chatman, Christy Sides, Rep. William Daniel, Judge Wilson Fields, Jack Warner, Brandon Landry, Buddy Songy, and Sean Reilley.

Additionally, Guirard is looking forward to shooting hoops with basketball legend Michael Jordan in just a few short weeks. Guirard will travel to Las Vegas between August 18 and 21 to attend Michael Jordan’s Flight School, an adult basketball camp that concentrates on developing a person’s basketball knowledge and skills. Ranging from Rick Pitino and Tubby Smith to Chuck Daly and Lenny Wilkens, the coaching staff at the school has more than 500 years of combined basketball experience. Guirard hopes to take the lessons learned and apply them to both his law practice and his basketball game.

Intertops’ $ 25,000 US College Basketball March Madness Bracket Pays Out – Perfect Bracket or Not

St. Johns, Antigua (PRWEB) March 18, 2009

With the 64 teams announced this weekend, office pools across America and around the world will be adding a little excitement to the US college basketball playoffs this month. But no one is putting up as perfect a prize for the perfect brackets as Intertops Sportsbook. Intertops March Madness Bracket will pay $ 25,000 for the perfect bracket. And perfect bracket or not, Intertops pays out.

For those that think it’s virtually impossible to predict all 64, if there is no perfect bracket Intertops will split the $ 25K prize among the best 25 tips. Full details are available at http://www.intertops.com/sportsbook.

One Intertops punter in particular is going to enjoy the Final Four championships in Detroit. In a random draw from all customers who bet on college hoops, Mike A. from Arizona won Intertops’ Final Four Prize Package just by betting on college basketball games during the season. One of Intertops’ biggest prize packages of the year, his Final Four all expenses paid trip includes four nights at a top hotel, upper level tickets to the Semi-Finals & Final Game and flights to Detroit.

Intertops, the very first sportsbook to take an online wager and still one of the most popular and trustworthy books in the world, is upping its deposit bonuses for March Madness wagering. There’ll be a 20% deposit bonus up to $ 200 until the 22nd and then again for the Final Four April 3rd to 6th.

They must be delirious with Big Dance excitement because Intertops is also doubling its loyalty program bonus points for all March Madness bets.

March Madness is the second biggest sports betting event of the year, second only to the Super Bowl.

Bridgeport’s Webster Bank Arena at Harbor Yard to Host 2011 MAAC Basketball Championship

Fairfield, Conn. (Vocus/PRWEB) February 28, 2011

School officials from Fairfield University say they are excited that Webster Bank Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, Conn. nabbed the opportunity again to host a major Division I college basketball tournament. The winner of the 2011 Spark Energy Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships will each receive the conference’s automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA basketball tournament.

The five-day basketball competition is scheduled for March 3-7, and MAAC executives said they are pleased the city of Bridgeport was selected again to host the men and women’s basketball tournaments. “Webster Bank Arena at Harbor Yard has proven to be a great venue for the MAAC championship. It is a significant achievement for Bridgeport, and the result of a strong partnership between the MAAC, Spark Energy, Webster Bank and many local companies. Organizers of the tournament said they are impressed with the arena and the outstanding fan base of MAAC alumni and local supporters who enjoy college basketball.

That alone is 1,200 hotel rooms before any fans come to town,” said Ken Taylor, MAAC Associate Commissioner. In addition, participating Bridgeport restaurants will serve as alumni and fan headquarters for each of the 10 MAAC schools.

Law Student Leads Most Popular College Basketball Site to New Heights

New York, NY (PRWEB) December 12, 2005

Entering its fourth season of in-depth, round-the-clock coverage of college basketball, http://www.collegehoops.net assumes its role as the web’s largest independent NCAA hoops site. Starting as a mere vision in then-college student Shawn Siegel’s dorm room, CHN has grown into a daily destination for over ten thousand die-hard college basketball fans each day.

Siegel, CHN‘s do-everything President, is openly surprised at the site‘s success, “In all honesty, I had no clue how big CHN would become. The key to it all was being able to find talented writers that would stick with me through humble beginnings.” To this day, writers like Michiganite Joel Welser are still key to the site’s success. As the creative force behind CHN’s popular 144 Teams in 144 Days college basketball preview, Welser has amassed a massive portfolio of college basketball knowledge that few in the business could muster. “I’d be willing to match the quality and sheer extent of Joel’s work against any so-called college basketball expert in the country,” Siegel compliments, “Andy Katz, Seth Davis, Dickie V, whoever. Those guys know Duke and UNC. This guy knows everything.”

Going beyond the mere ACC-centric coverage of college basketball offered by ESPN is really the underlying concept that CHN was founded on. This is not to say that the top teams are ignored. Recent interviews with stars like Duke’s JJ Redick and Arizona’s Hassan Adams help give the site credibility and exposure to a wider fan-base. But ultimately Siegel knows the whole purpose of CHN is to provide the average college basketball fan with coverage of teams and players that the mainstream media outlets make no effort to cover.

The concept seems to be working. After averaging about 1,000 unique visitors during its first NCAA Tournament, the site grew to about 4,500 in year two, and finally to over 12,000 last March. This coming March, CHN is expecting over 20,000 unique visitors per day. “Right now, traffic on the site is exactly double what it was last December. Not only that, but the site is probably twice as good as it was this time last year. There’s no reason to think we‘ve come close to peaking.”

Perhaps the hardest thing for Siegel is not trying to cut into the readership of massive corporate sites like ESPN.com, Rivals.com, or CSTV.com, but merely finding the time to do so. On top of doing just about everything from designing logos and writing web-code, to interviewing top coaches and soliciting advertisers, Siegel also is a full-time law student. “I don’t have the guts to simply devote my future to running websites. At least not yet. Maybe if the traffic on CHN doubles once again I’ll give it more serious thought.” But for now, Siegel manages the site while trying to manage his work-load at one of the country’s top 25 law schools, Washington University School of Law in Saint Louis.

“I’m probably a better website publisher than I am student,” the self-effacing Siegel jokes. But CHN’s passionate fans don’t really care either way. So long as the site continues to provide unique insight into the game they love, it’s no matter whether Siegel attends the Final Four or spends his time studying for finals instead.
